The Aeromedical Centre

AME Partners is based at The Aeromedical Centre in Washington, West Sussex, conveniently located off the A24 for those flying from Gatwick, Heathrow, Goodwood, Shoreham, Redhill Aerodrome, Fairoaks, Blackbushe and Farnborough. We aim to provide a quick turnaround on a full range of aero-medical services, as well as advice and assistance in the event of any decrease in fitness.


Dr Azita Jones, BSc (Hons), DIC, MBBS, MRCGP, DRCOG, DFSRH, MSc – Aeromedical Examiner
Dr Jones graduated from Imperial College with First Class Hons. and a DIC in Biochemistry before completing her medical training at St Bartholomew’s Medical School in 1990. In addition to her role as an aeromedical examiner she has been a GP for nearly 30 years, during which she held a variety of roles including GP Trainer and GP Tutor. She is currently also a GP and AME Appraiser. Her son is an airline pilot.


Gareth Jones, Practice Manager
As practice manager, he runs the administrative function of AME Partners.

Dr Nicholas Pegge, Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Nicholas Pegge is a consultant cardiologist practising in Sussex. His substantive NHS consultant appointment is at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust which comprises Worthing Hospital, St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, and Southlands Hospital. Dr Pegge also  undertakes private outpatient consulting at BMI Goring Hall Hospital, Bodiam Avenue, Goring-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN12 5AT.

Dr Pegge was educated at St Ambrose College, in Cheshire, then at Jesus College, Cambridge and St Thomas’ Hospital, UMDS, London. After qualification in 1993, he trained first in general medicine in London, then specialised in cardiology, training in Swansea, at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and the Klinikum der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität (University Hospital) Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, where he undertook a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology under Professor Andreas Zeiher in 2003. More…


Dr Martin Thomas, Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Thomas is a consultant cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre, London, one of the largest cardiovascular centres in Europe. He has extensive experience in all aspects of adult cardiology including the assessment of patients presenting with symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizzy spells and blackouts. He has a particular interest in advanced heart failure management including implantation of bi-ventricular pacemakers and cardiac defibrillators. He is also interested in cardiac risk assessment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Dr Thomas has a specialist interest in aviation cardiology and is a consultant advisor to the Civil Aviation Authority. More…


Dr Jonathan Timperley, Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Timperley is a CAA approved aeromedical examiner and pilot having served in the Royal Air Force for 20 years, retiring from the service as the Lead Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for the RAF ECG Management System. He currently lectures on the cardiology sections of the Basic and Advanced Aviation Courses at King’s College, London, and on the Diploma of Aviation Medicine Course at RAF Henlow. More…


Adrian Chorley, Optometrist
Adrian qualified as an optometrist in 1994 and began his career as sole optometrist in a practice in Sloane Street, London SW1. After a number of years in community practice, Adrian joined the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in the Medical Department as Optometrist Principal and as the first optometrist employed by the CAA.

Adrian spent over 17 years subsequently at the CAA, amassing extensive experience in aviation ophthalmology through clinical examinations, influencing policy at a European level, writing CAA vision guidance material, managing complex eye cases for medical certification and providing training in ocular examination and vision standards to AMEs and other medical audiences. Adrian founded and runs Aviation Vision Services Ltd offering clinical eye examinations to CAA standards, specialist colour vision testing and post refractive surgery assessment. More…


Dr Andreas Schenk, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Schenk has over 15 years extensive and diverse experience working as a consultant psychiatrist in a variety of settings within the UK and abroad. Working outside of the UK has given him valuable cross cultural perspectives on medical practice and he has successfully completed Parts I and II of the USMLE (United States Medical Licensure) examinations. He has been appointed to lead both inpatient and community teams. Between 2002 and 2005 he was appointed as consultant psychiatrist in charge of a specialised inpatient psychotherapy unit at TARA Hospital in Johannesburg.

In 2007 he was appointed as Staff Consultant Psychiatrist at the Priory Hospital Southampton. Prior to this he held a substantive post as Consultant in General Psychiatry with the Dorset Health Care Trust and in April 2013 he established practice as a Psychiatric Consultant at the Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital. Dr Schenk has many years experience in assessing clients for Occupational Health purposes and in October 2019 he was appointed as Advisor in Psychiatry to the Civil Aviation Authority.More…

Dr Jones undertakes medicals at The Aeromedical Centre, Corris, Rock Road, Washington, West Sussex RH20 3BQ. The centre is just off the A24, with easy access from Surrey and West Sussex and offers ample off-street parking. Guidance on how to find us on Rock Road can be found here.

We carry out medicals in a new, purpose built aeromedical centre, which allows us to offer a much improved service including audiograms carried out in a professional sound booth onsite.
